About our Appeal

Since May 2018, the Tom Wilkinson V.C. Statue Appeal committee have been working hard to raise funds to enable a statue to be erected in Spike Island, West Bank, Widnes.  We now have two Patrons:

Bill Anderson MNM and Cdre Phil Waterhouse, RN.

We are working towards unveiling of the Statue in Summer 2022 but there is a lot of hard work and fund raising to do beforehand.

We desperately need help and will welcome ideas and people who wish to help achieve our goal.  The work is all voluntary and we do not pay expenses or any other form of payment.  This Appeal is at no cost to the ratepayers of Halton Borough and Halton Borough Council.

As Tom Wilkinson was a Merchant Seaman for thirty years and was seconded into the Royal Navy, the committee also aim to procure two memorials commemorating all Seafarers from Runcorn and Widnes during WW1 and WW2.  One will be situated in Runcorn Cemetery where a new Memorial Garden is due to be commissioned.  The second one will be placed next to Tom Wilkinson’s statue in Spike Island.
